Historical Fiction Author

J MOBBS MAHONEY

Stories shaped by endurance, hope, and the quiet strength of everyday lives.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Julie Mahoney was born in England. Just after her second birthday, she was carried across on a ship, with no memory of the country she’d left behind.

She lived across several states, meeting her husband in the Northern Territory, before settling in Far North Queensland,

a place she fell in love with and has called home ever since.

Perhaps it is that early, unremembered beginning that draws her so persistently back to England in fiction.

Her sister’s theory is that she’s simply writing about her past lives.

Julie writes historical fiction driven by character rather then commentary.

In her novels, she hands the voice entirely to those who inhabit the past, allowing them to tell their own stories in their own words.

The result is fiction that feels lived-in rather than imagined.

BOOKS

Cast out into the streets it would have been easier to die, than fight to live.

1700s London cared for those who had money. No one else mattered.

But sometimes you have a spark you didn’t know existed, until needed.

And fight you do, with every breath you have.

In the grime and struggle of every day life of 1800s London, Nate believed he was living his best life.

Then his father’s accident forces the family deep into the countryside for work.

His only comfort is his older sister, until she discovers an old book and begins to change in ways he cannot understand.

On her disappearance, his embittered parents refuse to even search, leaving Nate alone with questions, and the book she left behind.

When soldiers arrived to take the family horse, Nate does the unthinkable, fleeing into a world of war, guilt, and the truths he may not be ready to face.

Some stories linger.
